Should scooters switch to tubeless tires?
1. Should tubeless tires be used for scooters?
Spoke wheels were commonly used on motorcycles before rim wheels appeared. Constructed from multiple spokes connecting the hub and rim, functioning as a suspension system, spoke wheels are still used on Honda and Yamaha scooter models today.
Thanks to their special construction, spoke wheels have excellent force distribution capability when the vehicle travels on rough road sections. Additionally, they have good elasticity, reducing pressure on the handlebars, making them popular for long trips and uneven road sections. Light weight is also an advantage that makes spoke wheels preferred for small-displacement motorcycle models.
Even if bent or warped, spoke wheels can still be perfectly straightened and used normally. Some popular scooter models with spoke wheels include Honda Wave, Dream, Wave RSX, and Yamaha Sirius.

However, spoke wheels do have certain drawbacks, such as difficulty cleaning between the spokes. Rust phenomena after prolonged use diminish aesthetics, reduce elasticity, and increase the risk of spoke fractures.
Previously, spoke wheels always used tubed tires. But since tubeless tires entered the market, their advantages quickly attracted the attention of the motorcycle community. To date, modern scooter and automatic transmission models have all been equipped with rim wheels and tubeless tires.
However, major tire brands have begun developing tubeless tires for spoke wheels. This product was developed based on consumer demand—the desire to use tubeless tires on earlier-generation spoke wheel models. Therefore, tire sizes have good compatibility with wheel rims, ensuring quality and durability during operation.
