1. Functions of lubricant for automobiles
Before deciding which Amsoil lubricant line to choose for your automobile, we need to understand the role of lubricant in an automobile engine.
Beyond the basic functions of lubrication and friction reduction for the engine, lubricant also seals gaps between components such as piston rings, pistons, and cylinder walls to maintain stable pressure in the combustion chamber and prevent combustion gases from leaking into the crankcase.
Additionally, it keeps engine components clean, prevents sludge buildup and metal particles generated during operation.

2. Classification of automobile lubricants
Similar to genuine motorcycle oils, there are many different ways to classify automobile lubricants. In this article, we will classify them using the most common method: based on composition and quality.
Accordingly, there are 5 basic types of lubricants currently available: conventional oil, premium conventional oil, fully synthetic oil, semi-synthetic oil, and high-mileage oil.
Conventional lubricant
This is the most affordable and fairly common type of lubricant. Although it meets API and SAE standards, the content of beneficial additives in the oil is relatively low.
If your vehicle doesn't travel frequently and has low operational intensity, you can choose conventional lubricant to save costs.

Premium conventional lubricant
This is a standard product designed for newer generation automobiles. This type of oil typically has an API rating of at least SL and viscosity in the mid-range: 5W30, 10W40, etc.
Synthetic lubricant
This is a lubricant derived from 100% synthetic oil and has obtained certifications meeting strict quality standards.
