5 Tips for Using Tubeless Motorbike Tires

5 Tips for Using Tubeless Motorbike Tires

Currently, new generation motorcycles in the market often use tubeless tires. To ensure the durability and safety of tubeless tires, you need to pay attention to the following five points.

Learn more: Is it better to choose a motorcycle tire with or without a tube?

Tubeless tires have the ability to hold air and offer greater safety compared to traditional tubed tires.

1. Tubeless tires are widely used

Tubeless motorcycle tires are a type of tire that can maintain air pressure without needing a tube, unlike conventional tires. Typically, these tires are lined with a layer of halobutyl or chlorobutyl on the inside to prevent air from escaping.

Compared to traditional tubed tires, tubeless tires provide better heat dissipation and are sturdier since they are mounted directly onto the metal rim. Additionally, tubeless tires are lightweight, highly balanced, and offer good traction, ensuring safety for riders when navigating slippery or uneven terrains.

Today, tubeless tires are used by most new generation motorcycles.

Thanks to such significant advantages, tubeless motorcycle tires are increasingly popular and widely used. Most new models on the market today, such as Air Blade, SH, Vision, etc., are equipped with tubeless tires.

2. Important points to consider when using tubeless motorcycle tires

Be cautious when repairing

Since these are tubeless tires, if the motorcycle gets punctured by nails or sharp objects, repairing them is not straightforward. If not repaired by a skilled technician and with the correct technique, the puncture could worsen and the tire may still lose air after being patched.

Typically, to save time, repair shops will perform a quick patching (using a specialized patch, reamer, and clamp). This method is fast but only provides a temporary fix. After some time, the patched area will deteriorate.

It is advisable to use internal patching methods.

For tubeless motorcycle tires, internal patching is the best way to ensure durability. Internal patching is recommended by tubeless tire manufacturers. To carry out this method, the technician will remove the tire using specialized equipment, clean the inner surface of the tire, and apply a patch to the punctured area. This method, although time-consuming, ensures high durability.

Avoid using self-patching glue on tubeless motorcycle tires.

Some people believe that applying self-patching glue will close the puncture and prevent air from escaping. However, allowing the glue to remain in the tire for an extended period can corrode the rim and lead to tire degradation, pitting, and oxidation.
