1. Patching and Replacing Motorcycle Inner Tubes
1.1. How to Replace and Patch Motorcycle Inner Tubes
Today's motorcycles typically use 2 common tire types: tubed tires (tires with inner tubes) and tubeless tires (solid tires without inner tubes). In this article, we will guide you on how to replace/patch tubed tires.
Tools You Need to Prepare
To patch/replace your motorcycle inner tube, prepare the following tools:
- Water bucket
- Marker pen
- Mini air pump
- 3 tire levers
- Wrench
- Adhesive
- Sandpaper
- Inner tube patch kit for patching
- For replacing the inner tube, you will also need a basic motorcycle repair tool kit and a new inner tube
Guide to Patching Motorcycle Inner Tubes
With tubed tires, we will patch the inner tube directly. The process consists of 8 steps:
Step 1: Raise the center stand of the bike. Release the air, deflate the inner tube completely, then unscrew the valve stem nut with a wrench.
Step 2: Insert the tire lever at the contact point between the tire and wheel rim, then gradually push the tire outward.
Step 3: Remove the inner tube. Gently run your hand inside the tire to check for any nails stuck in it. If there are any, remove them.
Step 4: Inflate the inner tube and submerge it in a water bucket. Any location where air bubbles rise indicates a puncture. Mark the puncture location with a marker. Note that the tube may have multiple punctures, so inspect carefully.
Step 5: Gently sand the area around the puncture with sand
