Understanding Low Oil Pressure and Solutions

Even if you are using reputable, leading lubricant brands such as Essenza oil or Amsoil, you may still encounter a low oil pressure warning light. If you do not quickly identify the cause and apply an appropriate solution, it can damage your vehicle's engine and create potential accident risks.
Today, Huynh Chau will guide you on how to check and troubleshoot this issue thoroughly to ensure safe vehicle operation. Let's explore this together!

Understanding high/low oil pressure signals in cars and how to fix them
1. What is normal lubricating oil pressure?
Automotive engine oil operates through a circulation system. During the process of the oil pump spraying oil into the engine, oil pressure is generated. When the vehicle operates without load, the normal pressure level will be below 0.5 kg/cm². Under normal operating conditions, engine oil pressure typically fluctuates between 2.5 – 4 kg/cm² (depending on the specific vehicle model).
Whether you purchase Essenza oil, Amsoil, or any other automotive lubricant, the normal oil pressure level must be maintained stably within this range.

Low oil pressure can cause engine components to wear
If oil pressure falls below the permissible level, the engine will not have sufficient lubrication. This causes component parts to wear easily and leads to engine overheating and damage.
2. Causes of low oil pressure
Low oil pressure can occur due to one of the following reasons:
The vehicle is low on oil
This is the most common cause of low oil pressure errors. During operation, oil can be depleted due to evaporation, burning at high temperatures, or leaking through rubber seals. When the oil supply to the engine is insufficient, oil pressure will drop.
Using oil with low viscosity index
The viscosity index (SAE) is a measurement used to identify the thickness of lubricating oil. Specifically, the lower the SAE, the thinner the oil will be. For example, Essenza oil 10w30 for large-displacement vehicles will be thinner than 10w40 oil.
If the viscosity index is too low, it means the oil is too thin and
