1. What is a lubrication oil pump?

An oil pump is a critical component of the lubrication system. This part creates pressure to deliver engine oil to engine components completely and stably. The oil pump is typically located under the crankcase, near the oil reservoir area.

2. Types of lubrication oil pumps

Currently, there are 3 common types of lubrication oil pumps. Each type has different characteristics and structures. Below, Huynh Chau automotive oil distributor will provide you with comprehensive information on each type:

2.1. Rotor pump

This pump type consists of a housing containing 2 nested rotors. The outer rotor has a star shape with rounded peaks and is drilled with holes inside. The inner rotor has a cross shape and can rotate. These two rotors are designed with eccentric positioning. When the inner rotor rotates, it causes the outer rotor to move accordingly, creating gaps to hold and pump oil.

The rotor pump is constructed with 2 nested rotors

2.2. Gear pump

This pump type consists of 2 gears (a drive gear and a driven gear) designed to mesh together, creating two separate oil chambers. When the gears rotate, engine oil is pushed from the "inlet oil chamber," flows to the "outlet oil chamber," and then reaches the engine components.

Two gears are installed to mesh together, forming 2 separate oil chambers

2.3. Crescent pump

A crescent pump consists of a system of two inner and outer gears meshing together. The outer gear has more teeth than the inner gear. When the inner gear rotates, the outer gear rotates accordingly and creates pressure to force and push oil into the
