Optimal Oil for Motorcycle Engines - AMSOIL Metric 10W-40 Lubricant

Fuel consumption has always been a concern for motorcycle owners. To alleviate this worry, you need to select the right lubricant that suits your motorcycle. 1. What Type of Lubricant Does Your Motorcycle Need?

To keep your motorcycle running smoothly and fuel-efficiently, you need to pay attention to selecting the right lubricant. In reality, there are many opinions suggesting that using expensive oil will help your motorcycle operate most efficiently. This is a completely unfounded notion, as each motorcycle has its own distinct characteristics, such as different durability and operating conditions.

Therefore, when changing oil for your motorcycle, you must base your choice on the viscosity grade and oil specifications to select the appropriate type:

  • Low viscosity oil (thin) will save fuel; however, the engine runs less smoothly due to increased friction between internal engine components. Additionally, when using this type of oil, you should pay attention to changing the oil frequently.
  • High viscosity oil (thick) will protect the engine better and run more smoothly, but it will cause engine drag, thereby increasing fuel consumption.

Based on viscosity grade and oil specifications to select the appropriate type of lubricant

Currently, motorcycle oil is typically classified into 2 viscosity grades according to SAE letters. For example: SAE 10W40, SAE 5W40, SAE 20W50... When looking at these numbers, you can determine whether the product's viscosity is thin or thick:

  • The first number before the W letter (for example: 10 in 10W40) indicates the standard viscosity of the oil at low temperatures. The lower this number, the better the oil type you choose will handle low temperatures, ensuring that the motorcycle will start smoothly even when temperatures are cold and the engine has not yet warmed up. However, since Vietnam's weather conditions are relatively mild, we can overlook this detail
