Changing transmission oil for scooters is a very important task but is often overlooked

1. What is transmission oil?

Transmission oil, also known as gear oil, is a lubricant used to reduce friction on the transmission gears of a scooter's rear wheel. If gear oil becomes depleted or deteriorates, it can cause the gears to rust easily, damage the bearings, and cause the scooter to lose balance. Therefore, when riding a scooter, you should change the transmission oil periodically to ensure optimal performance and extend the lifespan of your vehicle.

2. How often should transmission oil be changed?

Similar to engine oil used for motors, transmission oil also needs to be replaced periodically. However, the interval differs from engine oil.

Specifically, scooter engine oil should be changed after approximately 2,500 km of riding. For transmission oil, this interval is 7,000 – 9,000 km. This means that for every three engine oil changes, you should change the transmission oil once.

Motorcycle transmission oil should be changed after every 7,000 – 9,000 km

Additionally, during the rainy season, if your scooter frequently travels through waterlogged areas, the transmission oil change interval may be shortened. This is because when water enters the rear wheel transmission system, it contaminates the oil and can cause components to deteriorate and reduce their lifespan.
