1. How often should you change motorcycle oil?

Regularly changing motorcycle oil ensures that the engine operates smoothly. The frequency of motorcycle oil changes depends on various factors such as the motorcycle's age, usage intensity, road conditions, and speed...

So, how often should motorcycle oil be changed? Manufacturers recommend changing motorcycle oil after the first 1,000 km. For subsequent changes, a reasonable interval for newer motorcycles is every 2,000 km, while for older bikes, it’s about every 1,000 to 1,500 km.

If you frequently ride long distances, such as 1,000 km each month, regular oil changes will be necessary to ensure the engine operates well over long distances. However, if it’s a new bike still in the break-in period of 500 km, you should consider changing the oil. The time to change oil may be shortened depending on the motorcycle's age, usage frequency, and operating environment.

You should change motorcycle oil according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

In Vietnam, due to poor road conditions, motorcycle manufacturers advise owners to change oil according to the maintenance schedule provided in the user manual for each type of motorcycle, as per regulations in the Vietnamese market.

You can check if it’s time to change your motorcycle oil by stopping the engine for 30 to 60 minutes. After the engine cools down, use pliers to remove the dipstick. If the end of the dipstick is dry or marked below the X mark, it means the oil is low. If the oil appears black and greasy, you need to change the motorcycle oil immediately. Old oil contains many impurities and tiny metal shavings, which can damage the engine, so it must be removed completely.

Conversely, if the oil is still light yellow and gradually thins out, it indicates that the motorcycle oil is still usable.
