1. What is the LSPI Phenomenon?
LSPI is the phenomenon of spontaneous ignition of the fuel and air mixture before the spark plug ignites. LSPI occurs under low-speed, high-torque conditions. It is typically identifiable by a "knocking" sound in the engine, especially during acceleration. This phenomenon can potentially damage pistons, crankshafts, or connecting rods.
Vehicles require an engine oil that provides exceptional anti-wear capability, resists heat buildup in modern turbocharged engines, prevents deposit formation, and prevents LSPI. However, the performance of the entire new oil formula is critical, not just one or two components. AMSOIL Signature Series achieves 100% protection against LSPI when tested according to GM's dexos1 Gen 2 technical specifications.
