Shock Absorber is the Suspension Component of a Motorcycle
1. Causes of Motorcycle Shock Absorber Oil Leakage and Damage
Motorcycle shock absorbers or suspension springs are components that help the vehicle operate smoothly and comfortably, minimizing the risk of damage to other parts when traveling on rough roads.
After a period of use, motorcycle shock absorbers are very prone to oil leakage and damage. So is leaking shock absorber oil a concern? What causes this condition?
In reality, there are many different causes of shock absorber oil leakage that pose dangers to the rider and reduce the vehicle's lifespan. Some typical causes include:
- Rubber Seals Worn Out or Hardened
Rubber seals are usually designed at the top of the shock absorber body with a size equal to the shock rod. This component helps prevent dust, water, and other environmental contaminants from entering the shock absorber. If the rubber seal is damaged, engine oil will be contaminated with dirt and dust, causing scratches on the shock rod and rubber seal. As a result, lubricant will leak out.
Shock Rod Scratched During Operation
- When the gap between the two shock rods is too large, it creates openings. This is exactly why shock absorbers leak oil. Additionally, if the quality of the shock rod and oil is poor, the shock rod may develop scratches during operation. This is also a factor causing oil to leak out.
Carrying Loads Exceeding Permitted Weight Capacity Frequently
- Many people often have the habit of transporting heavy items by motorcycle. This causes the shock absorber to bear excessive load pressure, reducing its lifespan.
