Automatic Transmission Fluid vs. Manual Transmission Oil: Which is Better?

Automatic Transmission Fluid vs. Manual Transmission Oil: Which is Better?

Most modern cars are equipped with automatic transmissions, which have largely overshadowed traditional manual transmissions. However, this does not mean that vehicles with manual gearboxes have completely disappeared. Therefore, when changing the engine oil, vehicle owners need to clearly understand in order to choose the right type of oil for their transmission. Huynh Chau will outline the advantages and disadvantages of these two types of transmission oils in the article below.

Using the appropriate transmission oil helps optimize performance and extend the vehicle's lifespan.

1. Advantages of good automatic transmission oil

Automatic Transmission (AT) is a type of gearbox that can change the gear ratio without the intervention of the driver. The most common type on the market today is the hydraulic automatic transmission, found in vehicles such as the Toyota Camry, Toyota Innova, Ford Ranger, and others.

Automatic transmission oil acts as a hydraulic fluid to lubricate and assist in the transmission of power to the gears. Additionally, similar to changing engine oil, the use of transmission oil creates oil film layers that help protect the internal components of the vehicle's transmission, reducing corrosion, preventing rust, and prolonging the lifespan of the transmission.

Automatic transmission oil typically has a lower viscosity compared to manual transmission oil. Furthermore, high-quality transmission oil needs to have foaming and sedimentation resistance to prevent uneven power transfer within the transmission.

Many people prefer automatic transmission oil for its versatility.

Another important note when changing engine oil is to select oil products that can maintain flow at permissible temperature levels. An increase in temperature can alter the chemical structure of the oil, leading to sedimentation, causing blockages, and increasing wear on gears, clutches, and related components.

Currently, automatic transmissions tend to heat up faster than manual ones. Therefore, some vehicles are equipped with additional oil cooler systems for the automatic transmission.

Similar to automatic transmission oil, transmission fluid coolants are also very popular on the market. You can easily find them at locations such as oil distributors in Ho Chi Minh City, oil distributors in Hanoi, oil distributors in Dong Nai, and more.

2. Advantages of good manual transmission oil

Manual Transmission (MT) is a type of gearbox that allows the driver to change the gear ratio through the gear lever. In terms of structure, manual transmissions are simpler than automatic ones, but this does not mean that the lubrication process for manual transmissions is easier.

High-quality manual transmission oil needs to ensure effective lubrication and power
