Opportunities and Challenges for New Lubricant Dealers in Vietnam

Opportunities and Challenges for New Lubricant Dealers in Vietnam

The number of transportation vehicles in our country is rapidly increasing, leading to a boom in retail and wholesale lubricant stores in the market. However, this is not necessarily an entirely easy business field, especially for new lubricant dealers.

So, what do you need to do to outshine other competitors in this highly attractive market share battle?

There are always opportunities and challenges for lubricant dealers in the Vietnamese market.

General investment situation in lubricant dealerships in Vietnam

According to statistics from the Vietnam Oil and Gas Association in 2018, the domestic lubricant industry had an average growth rate of 4-6%, reaching a consumption level of 90,000 tons of lubricants annually. These figures only partially reflect the "huge" potential of this market in Vietnam, which is why multinational corporations and famous global brands are increasingly investing in lubricant dealerships in Vietnam.

Specifically, it is easy to see prominent names like Castrol, Chevron, Shell, and Mobil are very popular in stores today. Among them, JX Nippon Oil & Energy operates a plant with a production capacity of 40,000 tons per year; Castrol produces 25,000 tons per year, and Idemitsu has a production capacity of 15,000 tons per year.

The abundant supply from well-known global brands alongside domestic low-cost brands and a strong rise in consumer demand are the main factors driving an increasing number of fuel dealerships, all competing to share this lucrative market "cake."

Vietnamese lubricant dealerships are receiving increased investment and are expanding in scale.

Market challenges and competition among lubricant businesses

As consumer demand rises, competition among lubricant businesses is inevitable. Most of the current lubricant brands have set up production plants in Vietnam to manufacture products specifically for the domestic market.

Alongside the competition among lubricant brands, wholesale and retail fuel dealers are also "competing" for every corner of this lucrative market.

In fact, some lubricant dealers frequently engage in unhealthy competition where counterfeit products are openly sold in stores under the names of well-known brands.

Of course, in an era where personal transportation is rapidly increasing, with cars and motorcycles surging in numbers from rural areas to big cities, the lubricant market is also developing day by day. This makes consumers easily overwhelmed and dispersed by thousands of products surrounding them. Ultimately, rising prices and mixed sources of genuine and counterfeit products pose a significant challenge for
