1. What is an oil filter?
The oil filter, also known as the oil filter cup, is an indispensable part of every car. Its main function is to remove metal particles, dirt, and impurities generated during operation. Additionally, it aids in lubrication, cooling, and reducing rust in the engine.

2.1 Structure of the oil filter
The oil filter consists of key components, including a one-way valve, filter element, safety valve, and oil filter cup.
- One-way valve: This component prevents the lubricant from flowing back out when the engine is not running.
- Filter element: Inside the filter element, there are layers made of folded metal film, felt, paper, or centrifugal filter cores. This filter captures dirt, metal debris, and purifies the oil.
- Safety valve: Constructed from heat-resistant, durable material. If issues arise in the oil pipeline, such as blockage or excessive internal pressure, the spring inside the safety valve will open, allowing oil to flow directly through the filter cup without passing through the filter core. This helps reduce pressure to a safe level while regulating the oil flow to protect the engine.
- Oil filter cup: Also known as the outer casing, it is usually coated with a protective paint that resists corrosion. This helps the oil filter avoid thermal effects while the engine is running.

2.2 Operation principle of the oil filter
The operation principle of the oil filter is straightforward. Oil is introduced into both sides of the filter. It is sucked into the filter cup and then goes to the filter screen to remove dirt or metal debris. Finally, the oil is directed back through the center core of the filter cup and into the system to operate the engine.
